The Big Butterfly Count 2026 takes place from Friday 17 July to Sunday 9 August 2026.
This UK-wide citizen science project requires just 15 minutes of your time to sit in a sunny spot and record the butterflies and day-flying moths you see.
You can participate from your own garden, a local park, or a nature reserve by logging your sightings on the Butterfly Conservation website or via their free recording app. This year the nation voted on it’s favourite butterfly and the Peacock butterfly (shown here) was a clear winner.
