Sustainable Crediton started life in 2007 as Crediton Climate Action. Early campaigns included action to reduce the use of single use plastic bags, campaigning in support of the UN 2009 Copenhagen Climate Change Conference including two of our supporters cycling all the way to Copenhagen; promoting proposals for a Crediton to Exeter cycleway – yes, we are still plugging away at that one – and a ‘grow your own food’ initiative.

In 2010 we changed our name to Sustainable Crediton. An ambitious new project was to organise a group purchase scheme for the installation of solar panels to some 70 properties in Crediton, including the Boniface Centre. We expanded our activities to include clothes swaps, organising plastic recycling in the days before it was part of the kerbside collection service, holding ‘give and take’ days to redistribute unwanted items, and holding an annual seed share day.
In 2024 we were pleased to be granted Charitable Incorporated Organisation status by the Charity Commission. We continue to go from strength to strength. For the past four years we have held an annual Big Green Fair, introduced to re-launch us after the Covid restrictions. Other new intiatives include the food larder, generously hosted by Crediton Library, which has proved to be enormously popular, and the return of the Crediton Repair Café.

Sustainable Crediton has continued to grow in recent years and our newsletter is sent monthly to over 800 subscribers. Our Facebook group has 1000 followers.
Sustainable Crediton is pleased to be a member of the Transition Town Network.
