We had a very successful hedge-laying course on the
8th December at our new location, Tucking Mill Farm in
Zeal Monochorum. This link gives a few more details about the
course and has some photos of the day. We now have nine newly
trained hedge-layers in the group thanks to our grant from Awards
for All. We would really appreciate if the trained hedge-layers
could turn out for the remaining sessions this winter to help us
make some real progress on the hedge at Newton St Cyres.
Four of us attended the work party on the 16th
December at Newton St Cyres. We practiced our hedge laying on John
Quicke's hedge and probably laid about 20 yards and in the process
created a massive amount of timber to be processed next time. As it
started to rain at about 2pm, we repaired to the pub for some
Christmas refreshments!
All the stacked and bagged wood at Newton St Cyres has been
taken, but there is still considerable quantities of wood to be
processed both at Zeal (from the hedge-laying course) and at Newton
St Cyres ( following 16th Dec work party).
The next work party dates are as follows:
Jan 2014
Sun 12th Newton St Cyres
Mon 20th Zeal
Feb 2014
Sun 2nd Zeal
Mon 17th Newton St Cyres
March 2014
Sun 2nd TBA
Mon 17th TBA
Finally, there is a possibility of a social outing in the spring
to a small farm situated above the Taw Valley comprising pasture,
woodland, orchard and vineyard. Watch out for more details.
