The event started on time at 9.30am. We had great weather which
meant we worked through to finish at 4:30pm.
The Devon Rural Skills Trust (DRST) provided 4 instructors and
we had 9 Sustainable Crediton members present for training. We also
had two people helping process the brash. We started with a site
induction and safety talk given by Nick Dawe. Details of these
talks can be found below.
We learned how to use billhooks, axes, bowsaws, pruning saws,
loppers to remove undergrowth and surplus steepers from the hedge
line and then how to carefully cut the remaining stems to lay the
hedge.
2 or 3 trainees worked with each instructor on their own section
of hedge.
We completed about 50 metres of hedge and the slide show shows
what we did pictorially.
