The Woodland Management Group has for the past few years been
working on a long term coppicing project at Moor Farm, near
Morchard Bishop..
Chopping down trees may sound a bit counter-intuitive for a
sustainability group. However, selective coppicing regenerates
growth and opens out glades in otherwise heavily shaded woodland,
which creates a wider range of habitats, for example for
butterflies - and bluebells!
Our hosts at Moor Farm, Wendy and Robert Vere, are kindly
organising a bluebell walk on 17th May, starting at 3pm. We will
have a leisurely walk around the woodland, have a look at a new
hedge which we helped plant last winter, and round off the day with
a bring and share picnic.
This is an opportunity to see the benefits of the work carried
out by Sustainable Crediton volunteers and to enjoy the wood at its
absolute best..
Come along and join us: all welcome, including children.
