Impressive support for our Tree Nursery
Having a Tree Nursery of our own, on land kindly provided by
Andy Gray (regenerative farmer at Elston) is great: it allows us to
grow seedlings to replace trees as needed in our various
plantations (and they do need replacing, there is a regrettable
rate of attrition…)
Volunteers in our Tree Team have worked hard to provide the
nursery with the maintenance and TLC it needs - but this last
winter we could not manage to keep up with all the work
required.
So we were extremely lucky to be approached during the early
spring by Morgan Sindall, the engineering company repairing local
railway bridges, offering us help as part of their Community
Programme.
They came on Friday 4th April - six staff from Morgan Sindall
plus three from their partners Keystone Environmental - and worked
with us for a day, clearing, planting, watering, fencing and
protecting. They generously provided a whole package of support:
muscle power, new young seedlings, tree guards, mesh and a lorry
load of mulch which had to be wheel-barrowed into the nursery (with
camaraderie, cookies and lunches thrown in).
On behalf of Sustainable Crediton, I'd like to express huge
thanks to Morgan Sindall and Keystone Environmental for all the
support they provided. The nursery is now fit for purpose
again!
