The Waste Group worked in co-operation with the 'Love Food, Hate
Waste' (LFHW) project run by Resource Futures. This featured a
cookery demonstration using household surplus food that we may all
have at home, transforming it into a delicious meal. Watched by an
audience of around 50, Ruth Beckley from Ruth's Real Foods led the
demonstration, making a scrummy Panzanella salad using surplus
bread. She was assisted by Tracey from the LFHW making healthy
smoothies using surplus supermarket & shop fruit.
At the Sustainable Crediton stall the smoothie bike borrowed
from Devon County Council went down a storm, proving to be very
popular with young & old alike, creating unique drinks to their
own fruit preferences & taste, using surplus supermarket &
shop fruit.
We would like to thank Four Seasons, The Green Shop, Co-op,
Morrisons & Tesco for kindly donating their surplus fruit.
Also on the stall, members of the group were kept busy with
a constant stream of plastic waste, that was cleaned prior
to transporting it to a plastic recycling collection. In
addition we were able to act as a collection point for compostable
plates, cups & cutlery, as well as fruit peelings &
skins.
Glorious sunshine and a good turnout made for a great day!
