On a wet and rather windy morning 7 volunteers helped at another
plastics collection. There were a steady stream of customers who
dropped off their waste plastic. PWS turned up early to drop off
dumpy bags and then did the rounds to Sandford where a record 10
bags were picked up and then Cheriton Fitzpaine where another 13
bags were picked up. Altogether around 58 bags totalling 721
kg of plastic. We even had 15 large plastic oil cans brought
for recycling which were taken away.
This brings the total plastic collected over the last year to
4.1 tonnes and means we have now collected over 15 tonnes of
plastic since our collections first started in 2011 - that's 950
dumpy bags full of plastic!
An article in the local paper the day before
had been read by a number of people who asked about the
council plastic collection due to start later this year. This is
something that we will need to confirm and find out just what and
when the council will be collecting. We are hoping it
will make our collections redundant!

Any CLEAN food, drink and household plastic containers will be
accepted.
Our collection does not replace the Punchbowl facilities but is
intended to compliment them, and to help those who find travelling
to the Punchbowl difficult. It is aimed at increasing the amount of
plastic that is recycled and so reducing landfill.
