It was a very busy morning. Before we arrived at Peck &
Strong people had been dropping off their black bags of plastic, so
there was quite a mountain of bags to process before the official
start time. Andrew the PWS driver arrived at 9:30 and dropped off
empty dumpy bags and then he proceeded to Sandford Parish Hall car
park and picked up 5 dumpy bags of plastic collected over the
previous few days. From there Andrew went to the Cheriton Fitzpaine
collection point and picked up 12 full dumpy bags of plastic.
Back at Peck & Strong we had processed the black bag
mountain and were dealing with the general public who were dropping
off plastic in their hordes. When Andrew arrived back we had a good
20 dumpys ready to go into the lorry to completely fill the
loading space.
Over the next couple of hours there was a steady stream of
people bringing their plastic waste and we filled another 25 bags
before PWS arrived back to load up the bags of plastic.
All in all a good morning with thanks to the volunteers Carolyn,
Jenny, Stella, Jill, Esther, Charles and young John, who tried his
hand at loading the PWS lorry, directing traffic as well as sorting
plastic!
Another waste plastics collection is being held at Peck &
Strong, Lords Meadow Industrial Estate - close to the Leisure
Centre and next door but one to Eakers. For details of location see
map below.
Any CLEAN food, drink and household plastic containers will be
accepted.
Our collection does not replace the Punchbowl facilities but is
intended to compliment them, and to help those who find travelling
to the Punchbowl difficult. It is aimed at increasing the amount of
plastic that is recycled and so reducing landfill.
