Minutes of
WAGs Meeting Monday 24th March 2014 at 2pm at
Esthers
1. Apologies Jill
2. Plastics
Collection Sat 29th March
Anne is organising volunteers. Has 2 so far in
addition to committee. Organisers to meet at 9.15 to set up, other
volunteers at 9.30am.
Anne's new recycling guide plus the yellow collections date
leaflet will be available.
Esther to re-poster shops in High Street with
recycling dates leaflet.
Anne will remind Jill to
contact PWS and will speak to Peck & Strong re 29th.
All other arrangements for collection to be as previously and in
the notes Anne has issued.
New collection at Morchard Bishop may go ahead. The Parish
Council is keen, a site has been identified and they will be coming
back to Anne in due course to confirm. Collection
of materials will take place at a separate time to the Crediton/Ch
Fitz/ Sandford collection so there should be no issue with vans
being overloaded.
Plans for a collection at Lapford are on hold at the
moment.
Recycling credits for Nov 2013 are still not through and
Anne will chase the Council for them.
3. Recycling
Tip of the Month
Paula has written March Tips for Courier and
newsletter. Anne will edit newsletter version.
Stella will take over from April.
Paula will send Stella her first article and
will contact Alan Quicke and let him know Stella is taking
over.
Charles will send Stella details of Gemma
Mullen, reporter at Gazette, so 'Tip' can be sent to them too.
4. Pop Up
Shop
Anne and Paula met Paul Evans of Evans Travel and looked over
the shop which is very suitable except it has little storage and no
facilities for doing teas and coffees for the public. Location is
ideal. Paul Evans would like us to cover rates of £100 a week and
give a contribution to the electricity. Paul Evans will let us know
by end April whether the shop is still available.
STOP PRESS - Anne has now heard from Paul Evans that the
shop has been let
so we are back to the drawing board for location. Carolyn will get
back to owners of Cost Cutters to see what the current situation is
there.
All following information was decided on the
assumption we were using Evans Travel but should be equally
applicable to a new location/date.
Paula has submitted an application for an Awards for All
application for funding, Charles has submitted an Innovations Fund
application for literature funding and Paula is about to apply
for funding from DCC via Nick Way's Locality Fund.
Decided after much discussion to use the term 'Give and Take
Fortnight' for our title with the strapline of 'Don't Let
Crediton Go to Waste. Other useful wording: 'Pop Up Shop with a
Difference - Everything Here is FREE!'
Open 7 days a week from Sat 28th June to Sat 12th July
inclusive with set up/donations only day on Friday 27th
June.
Opening hrs 10am to 4pm with 2 shifts per day with reduced
opening on Sundays .
Committee to do 2 full days or 4 shifts each in total plus be
available for set up/knock down if possible. There would be
approx 60 opening sessions and if 3 people were to be in shop at
all time it would mean we need 60 x 4 hr volunteers sessions
including the committee. Existing lists of volunteers from plastics
and clothes swaps could be contacted plus appealing to everyone
through newsletter but we may need to have only 2 people available
at some times if not enough volunteers can be recruited.
Decided we would accept as donations to the shop anything clean
and useable that can be carried away by one or two people with the
exception of paint and dangerous flammable liquids. We would put a
notice in the window saying 'We reserve the right to refuse
anything unsuitable.' Would need a liability disclaimer for
anyone taking away electrical goods to complete. Anything too large
could be advertised on a board within the shop.
Would need to do an extensive and effective job of advertising
within the press and newsletter and via leaflets, posters and
Facebook and attempt to get someone notable along to open the shop.
Suggestions included Nigel Guthrie, Frank Letch and Judi Spiers.
Would also try to get Spotlight to feature shop.
5. Food
Festival
Discussion of this was deferred to next meeting when Jill could
be present.
6. Plastic Pot
Recycling
There was no movement on this at Bernaville.
Esther would chase them. Crediton Garden Centre
was not up for the idea.
7. Devon Waste
Strategy Consultation
Charles had submitted some very thoughtful and
incisive comments to the consultation. A number of people had
picked up on these on the website and commented along similar lines
and generally against the idea of a waste incnerator being built at
Tiverton.
8. Any Other
Business
8.1 The Congregational Church are having a Clothes
Swap in October and had contacted Anne to make sure it did
not clash with our plans. We felt this was very good because it
demonstrated that the idea of clothes swaps is spreading. We
agreed to offer any advice they might need and also to ask our
volunteer list if they would be interested in helping out on the
day should the church contact us saying they are short of helpers.
We would also advertise it on our website and in the
newsletter.
Anne will liaise with them.
8.2 Anne had made some changes to the
WAGs pages on the website which all who had seen them felt
were good and she would get rid of the Biscuit Wrapper
Campaign entry.
9. Next 2
Meetings
Will take place on Mon 28th April at 2.30pm at
Jills and Mon 12th or Tuesday 13th May at 2pm at
Jills depending on which is most suitable for Jill (if
either!!).
Jill please could you let us know what you think.
Please note that it was decided that the April
meeting would be primarily about more detailed plans for the Pop Up
Shop but as plans for this are now up in the air we will need to
spend time at this meeting deciding what we do next. Can
everyone please keep your eye out for possible alternative premises
in the next few weeks so we have something to work with on April
28th.
The meeting closed at 4.45 pm.
