Present: Carolyn, Jill, Stella, Esther, Charles, Anne and
Paula
1. Plastics
Collections
Anne will produce a press article for the next
Courier to go with the photos taken by Nora on 31st May (now
published and very good it was too!!). We collected 57 bags in
total at this collection including 20 from Sandford and Cheriton
Fitzpaine and this brings our total since starting close to 10
tons.
In the financial Year 2013/2014 we collected 4.6 tons over
6 collections which was to give an idea of how effective we are
being 28% by weight of the total plastics collected by Punchbowl
during the same period.
Stella is to pass Anne's contact details to a
lady in Shobrooke who is considering starting up a collection
there.
Our next collection is on July 26th in Crediton and during the
week prior to this in the villages.
Paula to place ad in Courier of 18th July.
Anne mentioned she would be unavailable to run the
Sept collection as she will be on holiday.
2. Tip of the
Month
Stella has written to Alan Quicke to 'gee him up' in using our
articles. Article number 4 is ready and waiting but number 3 had
not been published at time of meeting (was subsequently published
in issue of 6th June).
Paula suggested we attach a picture to the articles as the
Courier likes to use pictures. We will all take
some at the Food Festival recycling event and start to develop a
library.
Anne suggested we put the Sus Cred logo on the articles.
Charles to send to Stella but as the Courier have
it on file it was felt this was not essential.
3. MDDC
Recycling Changes Survey
49 people had responded to Charles 'mini survey' sent out to Sus
Cred members to see what people's views on the proposed recycling
changes are. Charles will send on the results to
MDDC.
The proposal is for fortnightly collections of all waste stream
types including landfill, plastic to be collected at the doorstep
(not sure how extensive the range of plastic
collected will be at present), cardboard to be added to the
current black box recycling collections and food waste put in a
caddy.
The £50 charge for Garden Waste was the most controversial item
for survey respondees, but this looks set to go ahead when
the policy is debated by the full MDDC Council on 2nd July.
Members of the public are allowed to attend this debate.
Charles said he might go.
4. Food
Festival Recycling June 14/15
7 people had agreed to help from Anne's plastic recycling list
of volunteers. All the Committee members were available to help
too.
We will cover Sat in 2 shifts, 10.30am to 1pm and 1pm to
3.30pm and Sunday in 2 shifts from 12noon to 2pm and 2pm to
4pm. We will not cover Sat evening.
Anne will send Carolyn the list of volunteers
who will help. Carolyn will make up a rota and
send it out to all the volunteers and committee members. Everyone
to be reminded to bring gloves, suntan cream and a hat.
The recycling bins and bags will be delivered on Thursday 12th
by MDDC to Town Square. As Jill is away Paula &
Charles will be the emergency contacts for 12/13th June
should there be any difficulty. Jill to
inform MDDC.
Jill will provide signs for the bins. We will
also use the A frame, Sus Cred banner and recycling banner.
Carolyn to make 2 A0 signs to go on the A frame
saying 'Recycling Point'
Esther, Jill and Stella will be at Town Square
at 10am on Sat 14th to set up
Carolyn will leave signs at Esther's in
advance, Anne will leave High Viz vests there and
Charles the Sus Cred and recycling banners.
The cost of bin delivery and then re-collection on Mon 16th by
MDDC will be £55 and this will be paid by the Food Festival
organisers
5. Pop Up
Shop
We have now been awarded £1,445 in grants to run this, £500 from
DCC under their Locality Fund (thanks to Nick Way) and £945 from
Awards For All. If we do not use this money within the financial
year to March 31 2015 we will have to give it back!
Paula to send Anne a copy of the DCC email
confirming the £500 they have given us.
The Museum has said no to us using their premises so
Esther is talking to the agents for Gees.
Jill to investigate the premises next to
Morrisons again with them. Stella to look into the
possibilities of using the Guide Hut at the Leisure Centre.
Paula to speak to Spinnakers and to Managers of
local letting agents Todd Lettings, Devon Lettings, Helmores
and Bradleys to get on their books as official 'clients' and
explain we have funds to pay a modest rent.
Depending on results of Esther's investigations of Gees and
Paula's discussions with Spinnakers and the letting agents above we
may look at less prominent locations other than High St shops at
the next meeting.
We agreed that as soon as a suitable premises became
available we should plan and execute the Pop Up Shop as quickly as
possible.
We could also have a Give and Take table at the Sus Cred
Community Market stall we are organising on August 9th. This
would need advertising with a press release and advert in the
Courier for a couple of weeks in advance. More discussion of how to
go about this needed at the July meeting.
6. Any Other
Business
6.1 Flower Pot Recycling at Bernaville
Bernaville were not responding to Esthers calls and appeared to
have removed the recycled goods display from the shop. Esther felt
it was therefore unlikely they would take back pots and would drop
the matter for the time being.
6.2 Resignation
After 7 years of facilitating the group Paula announced she
would be standing down from this role at the end of August. She
therefore wondered whether any other member of the group would like
to take over the role or whether the structure of the group should
change to accommodate this. More discussion is necessary at the
July meeting.
7. Next
Meeting
Mon 7th July at 2pm at Jills.
Meeting closed at 4.25pm.
