Present: Jill,
Paula, Charles, Anne, Carolyn, Esther
Apologies: None
1.Plastics
Collections
Jill confirmed dates of remaining collections
for 2014 were acceptable to PWS, March 29th, May 31st, July 26th,
Sept 27th, Nov 29th.
Anne had also done so with Peck & Strong. Both companies
need reminding before each collection. Jill and
Anne to do this as before.
Anne to send letter to PWS with £50 as a thank
you for their help in 2013.
Recycling credits to be donated to PWS for 2014. PWS do not want
to charge us as this makes difficulties with their other volunteer
run collections.
Carolyn has agreed 2,000 bright yellow leaflets with Hedgerow.
Paula or Charles to collect Thurs or Friday 9/10th
Jan ready for plastics collection on 11th.
Paula has put ad in Courier for 11th Jan collection and also
written a press release about 2014 dates and amounts so far
collected which the Courier have agreed to publish.
Established helpers to arrive at 9am on Sat 11th Jan to
set up before new helpers arrive. Anne to give
everyone Risk Assessment and run a short briefing for all at
9.30am. If enough helpers, some people to be assigned to sorting
plastic to separate black plastic and bottles by
Charles, and two people to be assisgned on a
rotating basis to giving out leaflets and talking to people. One
person to supervise traffic.
Paula to add to next publicity that we can now
accept bubble wrap.
Anne will travel with lorry to Sandford on 11th
to check everything is picked up properly there.
Paula to supervise Ch Fitz pick up.
2. Clothes and
Household Goods Swap
This has now been cancelled for 2014. A Pop Up shop will be
organised instead. Paula had cancelled the Boniface
Booking
3. Terracycle
and Biscuit Wrappers
Jill has explained to the Food Bank that they will not receive
monies until June/July 2014. They are fine with this.
4. New
Volunteers
Everyone except Paula had managed to start to follow up their
contacts. Some were coming to help on Sat 11th.
Anne to co-ordinate a list of who wanted to
help with what so we can contact them easily when necessary.
Paula would follow up her two contacts
shortly.
5. Recycling
List
Anne had been working on this and would get the
basic list onto the website shortly.
Once on the website we would discuss the ways we could use the
list including making some papers copies to give out at plastics
collections etc.
Could also do a 'Recycling Tip of the Month' from the list for
the newsletter and recycling articles for the Courier.
Jill to ask Stella if she might like to have a
go at doing this.
Esther would ask Bernaville if they would take
back plant pots
6. Crediton
Food Festival
Takes place this year on June 15th/16ty
Jill to talk to Tim Harris about what the plans
were for this year and whether they wanted us involved.
We may need a complete re think about what we do at the Festival
now that MDDC are no longer co-operative.
Make this a main agenda item for Feb once Jill has spoken to
Tim.
7.Talks to
Groups
Esther to come up with some ideas about what
she would like to talk about for next meeting. Generally agreed a
basic talk needed to be developed before we could approach groups
to speak to them.
Paula & Charles would help with the
technology.
Would be a good idea to have a practical element to talk such as
sorting a bin of real (but clean!!) 'rubbish' to see how much
is recyclable.
8. Garden
Re-Use List
Anne gave Paula some ideas for this.
Paula to contact Sustainable Ottery to see if
we can use their list too.
Paula to put together some basic ideas for next
meeting.
9. Cox's
Plastic Box Initiative
Paula to speak to Cox's and ask if the idea can
be put in the Courier and if so to write a relevant article.
Paula also to put in next newsletter that
Ashtons are giving away coffee grounds to gardeners for slug
control.
10. Devon
Waste Strategy Document
There are 6 more weeks before final submissiions must be in.
Charles would look at it in this time.
11. Pop Up
Shop
To take place weeks of 11th to 25th October but
may have to be flexible with dates if no suitable shops available
at that time.
Our aim is to get premises FREE.
Use theme of 'One Persons Rubbish is Another Persons
Treasure'
Main focus is 3R's, bringing freecycling to the High Street,
keeping stuff out of landfill and promoting existence and work
of Sus Cred especially WAGS..
Other Sus Cred groups may want to get involved.
Felt impact on charity shops would be minimal.
Anne to speak to owners of Evans Travel and
Seddons re using their premises.
Carolyn to speak to owners of Cost Cutter and
Phillips similarly
Paula to speak to any other empty shop
owners that come up before next meeting
Will need a budget for cleaning, advertising, hire of rails
& tables, electricity, gas, rates etc. Once we have some
idea of premises availability as above can speak to Core Grp
regarding this at Feb or March meeting.
Could we apply to Awards for All ? (Paula's thought after the
meeting)
Charles to speak to Hilary Hamilton about
whether the Arts Centre might do a playlet to advertise it.
Charles/Anne to mention at Core Grp in Jan that
it would be happening
Could we get sponsors? Suggestions please.
Jill to speak to Lou at Green House regarding
whats involved in running a pop up shop.
Will it be covered by Sus Cred's insurance.
Charles to check.
