Notes
from WAGs meeting Mon Sept 2nd at 2pm at Jill's
house
1. Plastics collection Sat Sept 7th
Paula to attempt to put an ad/some editorial in Courier of Fri
Sept 6th. Was agreed that we put future editorial/ads in the
Courier that comes out 8 days before the plastics collection event
now that the paper is weekly
Jill to check High Street etc. for posters and put up as
necessary and to bring remaining posters to collection on Sat. We
have about 100 left but agreed not to print more before a new
schedule of collections for 2014 was decided.
Charles to bring table/rocks/ signs/safety tape etc as usual
Anne to bring High Viz jackets
Charles to call Trish of PWS and remind her
Anne to call Peck & Strong to remind
Anne to email Chris, Jenny and Stella to see if they can
help
All to assemble at 9.15am to set up
Charles to add high viz jackets to risk assessment
Paula to liaise with PWS at Cheriton Fitzpaine and
supervise pick up from there
2. Biscuit Wrappers
Jill had collected a large bin bag full from the boxes in the
town but Haywards did not seem to be doing much.
Collection to be brought to a halt around Sept 24th as wrappers
must be received by McVities by Oct 7th
Anne to check with Landscore and liaise with Esther re any
wrappers there by Sept 24th.
Esther to collect from Food Bank, Courier, Ashtons and Haywards
for Sept 24th and liase with Paula to hand wrappers over.
Paula to package up and send off.
Paula to do an editorial piece re last date for wrapper
collection ASAP
Esther to collect in the plastic boxes where possible
3. WAGs Web Page
It was generally agreed that it already looked pretty good and
that the name should remain as Waste Action Group.
Charles will add all the leaflets we have created to the
site.
All to send Charles any leaflets they have stored on their
computers
We should add any new projects we are thinking of to the 3R's
page
Anne to update the Devon Waste figures
Charles to update individual page headings (not sure what this
means!)
Anne to write 'An Idiots Guide to Recycling' to add to the site
and use at events.
Anne to create a basic list for Idiots Guide above and
email to all then everyone to add to Anne's list all other details
they know of in time for next meeting if possible.
Charles to talk to Sarah about re-ordering data so newest 'news'
appears at top not bottom and/or to unpublish old and out of date
news articles
4. Rubbish Diet
Esther did not feel it was suitable to ask the housholds in
Oakfield Rd to do this as they appeared to be pretty good recyclers
anyway
Charles explained the programme consists of about 12 households
and one bin doctor over 8 weeks
with a structured approach.
Agreed that this would be a good programme to do if we had more
human resources but was not practical at the moment
Paula would write a 'Help Wanted' slip to give out at next
Plastics Collection to try and drum up support for this project and
WAGs work in general including help with plastics collections
5. Plastic Bag Petition
Esther had looked at several on line petitions but none had a
lot of support currently. She would look again at some of them.
We would not start a petition of our own at present as plastic
bags were not evidently 'sexy' waste currently!!
Would put this on our website list of potential projects
6. Clothes & Household Goods Swap
There was a lot
of discussion about whether we should hold a joint event again next
year or split them and where to hold the event given the expense of
the Boniface Centre and how this impacts on the Household Goods
section of the event.
It was finally agreed that Paula should contact the Boniface and
see if the dates of 15/22/29th March and 5th April were available
and book one of them as we could cancel at a later date if we found
somewhere more suitable.
Paula would also investigate Crediton Rugby Club and Crediton
Football Club premises.
Anne also wondered whether we could hold some 'pop up shop'
events for household goods in empty shops on the High St. Another
one for our list of future projects!
7. Any Other Business
7.1. Core Group are intending to hold a get together for all Sus
Cred groups and members with a speaker and open space brainstorm in
the new year. We agreed that WAGs was interested in attending and
would like to have a speaker. We could not think of any
inspirational waste related speakers except Nicky Scott of Proper
Job Chagford who we could contact if the Core Group wanted us
to.
7.2 Anne asked whether we should change the name of The
Waste Action Group. After discussion we agreed to leave it as it
is
7.3 Anne has been invited to talk to Transition Honiton
about plastics in September. Esther to go with her.
7.4 Anne suggested we give Landscore school a few ideas for
projects their Little Rotters group might undertake in the next
school year. A Freecycle event was mentioned or a project
highlighting the menace of plastic bottle. Anne will contact the
school.
7.5 It
was agreed that we would hold a WAGs lunch in November at Esthers
17 Oakfield Road, at 12.30pm on Mon Nov 11th and invite along
Nancy, Stella, Chris and Jenny and anyone who responded to our
leaflet.
All to bring food to share.
After lunch we will have an 'Open Space' discussion about the
future of the WAGs group in 2014 and beyond, what projects we would
like to get started on, what existing projects we would continue
and where we go from here.
