Minutes of
WAGs Meeting held at Wetherspoons on Mon 13th May at
2pm
Present: Paula, Charles, Jill, Anne and Carolyn
Apologies: Esther
1. Plastics
collections
All felt May collection went well despite wind. 5 dumpy bags
were also collected from Ch Fitzpaine by PWS who were happy to do
this. Ch Fitz collection was 25% up on Mar and collection there
will be repeated in July. Anne will think about
whether there is anywhere suitable to have a similar collection in
Sandford.
Not many leaflets for remaining collections left.
Charles will collect any that are in
Morrisons.
Paula will continue with a paper ad in
Courier for each of remaining collections this year and we will use
remaining leaflets to put on notice boards in advance of each
collection and also to have on our stall at the Community
Market.
Next collection
is Sat July 8th so leaflets/ posters need to go out during mid June
to usual spots as previously. Jill has most of the remaining supply
of leaflets if anyone needs some
2. Biscuit
Wrapper collection
We need to put collection boxes around the town. Suggested
spots: Library, Leisure Centre, Ashtons, Boniface, Cong Church,
Landscore.
Paula will check with Leisure Centre, Cong
Church, Boniface and Ashtons if they will have boxes.
Anne will check with library and persue
Landscore.
Jill will provide and deliver plastic boxes
with a poster on the lid plus an extra poster to put on the wall.
Jill will also empty boxes as necessary and
Paula will arrange sending wrappers off to
McVities.
Paula will send link to poster to everyone.
(Note from Paula as of Friday 17th:- Please also note that since
the meeting the Boniface Centre and library have said no to having
a biscuit wrapper collection boxes but the Courier (contacted
by Anne) and Cong Church have said yes. I have contacted
Ch Fitz, Haywards and Sandford schools as well. Have yet to hear
from Ch Fitz and Sandford but Haywards have said yes so if we can
tie things up with Landscore as well that will certainly help. Will
ask Ashtons on Tuesday.
Jill, I will let you know the final tally of boxes that need
delivering ASAP and certainly before Fri as we are going away then.
I also suggest that everyone prints off some posters to put up
around the place once we know the collecting spots. I will do a
press release for this too after I get back from bank holiday
weekend away.)
3. Stall at
Community Market
Will use the laminates and info from the plastic bag collections
as the basis for a display on the stall using Paula & Charles
self standing table top board and Annes free standing board.
Paula will organise this and print off any more
info necessary for display.
Will also use Sus Cred gazebo, tables and paperwork
including new leaflet.
Paula & Charles will bring their 6 ft
table. Anne has stall kit and gazebo and will
check how many tables Sus Cred have and where they are.
Jill will bring a recycling box with a sample
of everything that can be put in it.
Charles will organise practical display on what
can and cannot be recycled at our collections and at Punchbowl.
Anne will speak to Landscore again to see if
Little Rotters want any input (perhaps some might like to help make
flowers?)
4. Waste
Sculpture at Community Market June 8th.
Carolyn now has lots of plastic bottles etc but
will need to go to scrap store for extra bits.
Carolyn will bring a groundsheet and
Anne will provide her pasting
tables.Carolyn will also buy gravel to weight down
buckets.
Paula will let Olivers know that
Carolyn will be in on afternoon of Tues 21st May
to pick up plastic buckets for bases.
Paula will write a press release asking people
to come and help and also write up an article for the
website/newsletter.. She will also invite press along to take
pohotos on the day.
Charlotte Turner will help Carolyn with construction on the
day.
Will have to wait to see how sturdy construction is to know
whether we can leave it in place until Food Festival on 15th/16th.
Paula will communicate this to the organisers
Paula to ask Loo & Rob at the Green House
if they would keep an eye on it if it is left in place.
5. Recycling
at Food Festival 15th/16th June
Jill will contact Tim Harris and say it is his
responsibility to negotiate costs of collection of recycling/waste
with MDDC (Jill could you let Tim know at the same time that we
will not be manning the recycling this year)
Jill will also contact MDDC and ask for 18
recycling/waste bins to have in 3 areas of 6 around the Square.
Jill will make eye catching signs for lids and
fronts of bins and check on their delivery and location at the
start of the Festival.
Due to lack of people available at the weekend and no volunteers
forthcoming from CredFest volunteer scheme, the recycling areas
will be unmanned, but Jill will check on them each
day to make sure all is well.
6. Waste Diet
Challenge
Charles explained this initiative which is underway in some
other Transition communities. It is designed to encourage
whole streets/communities to cut down on their waste over an 8 week
period through a structured programme. Everyone felt it was a good
idea but that we were too busy at present to undertake another new
project so we will discuss it again in the autumn.
7. Any Other
Business
7.1
Charles reported that the Waste Efficiency Committee of MDDC had
not had a meeting yet but John Downes would still propose that we
have input into the committee when they have their first
meeting.
7.2 Anne had some feedback from the Clothes Swap:- that we
should encourage mens and childrens clothes and also that we should
consider Sandford Village Hall as an alternative,
cheaper, venue.
