Read the latest edition of junkmail, the
Devon Composting and Recycling Network Newsletter.
This edition has a number of articles
on new recycling schemes - including new facilities
for mixed plastics and small electrical items at Sainsbury's
superstores in Devon, and where to recycle plastic wrap in
Devon. Plastic wrap such as cereal packet liners, frozen food
packets and some packaging can all be recycled with plastic bags at
supermarkets. Look out for the label on packaging.
There is even a scheme for
hard to recycle plastics such as toothbrushes, biscuit
wrappers and pens. At present there are no such schemes running in
Devon, but the magazines details how would be collectors can
set up such a scheme.
Plastic bags are still a major
part of plastic waste and since the Welsh introduced a 5p
bag charge in October 2011, bag use has reduced by as much as
96%! As around 150 million
plastic carrier bags are used in the UK each week,
isn't it time England followed the Welsh
example?
