Review of January Plastics
Collection at Peck and Strong's
Last Saturday, 26th January, saw the first session of
Household Plastic Waste Collection by Sustainable Crediton at its
new location in the car park at cake producer PECK & STRONG at
Lords Meadow in Crediton.
'With their established approach as a business towards
environmental and sustainability issues, PECK & STRONG seemed a
relevant alternative to the Morrison's car park we had used
previously' says Paula Mossman, of Sustainable Crediton.
On Saturday, over a 2.5 hour period from 10am, a continuous flow
of people brought clean plastic household waste for collection and
recycling. It filled an impressive total of 40 dumpy bags,
equivalent in volume to a London double decker bus.
PECK & STRONG's Marketing man Nigel Grumbar (who was present
on the day) says:
'From the earliest days, founder John Peck has always been
determined that his business should show due care for the
environment, with carbon offsetting, minimal packaging,
photovoltaic energy gathering and a regular weekly collection of
our own plastic waste!'
This appears to be a great example of natural partnership
between local businesses and community initiatives.
The next collection will occur from 10am on Saturday
9th March - possibly a date for the diary?
