The Waste and Food Groups joined forces for the third year
in a row to run a very successful event at the Boniface Centre on
Sat 23rd March. This year we decided to include household
goods in addition to the clothes swap we have run for the past
two years and the idea proved very popular.
About 100 people attended the event to swap their
clothing, and also to bring along and take away unwanted
household goods. Books, china, glassware, cds, children's toys and
kitchenware were among the many items that filled the household
goods recycling area. It was a new experience for many to be
allowed to take away anything they might find useful for no charge
and without limits or strings! Such a rare happening in
today's world!
Some lovely clothing was also brought along, sorted by a band of
enthusiastic volunteers onto tables and racks and then swapped from
12 noon onwards. Lots of delighted people came away with 'new'
clothes to enhance their wardrobes and everything left over was
taken away to be sold for charity. In total over 800 items of clothing were bought in
to be swapped.
There was also yummy homemade cake and soup to keep everyone
fed. So all in all a very satisfying and
enjoyable day was had by all.
Watch out in the Sustainable Crediton newsletters later in the
year for details on our future events!
