The Waste Group and Food Group joined resources to run
Sustainable Crediton's 3rd Annual Clothes Swap at the Boniface
Centre on March 23rd. This year as well as
clothes, we added household goods where people could
bring or take away as many items as they liked with no limit!
Over 30 volunteers gave up their time and energy to make the day
happen and our thanks go out to all of them for their hard work,
smiles and cheerfulness. The delicious home-made soup
and cakes were welcome as the weather was very
cold, but even so around 100 people came along. Over 800 items
of clothing were swapped, with some very happy people
leaving with a 'new' wardrobe of clothing for the coming
season.
The household goods swap was also very well received with all
sorts of items from tins of paint, pots and pans and teddy bears
finding new homes. Many people just could not believe that they
could take away anything they chose for free - a pretty rare
phenomena in the 21st century!
There is every likelihood that a similar event will be held
in 2014. If you have any ideas for ways we could expand he day to
make it even more useful and successful we would be delighted to
hear from you.
