Significant Seams'
artist Catherine West will be facilitating a range of free creative
activities with Turning Tides creative Abi Innocent from November -
February, to co-create with the Crediton area community, a range of
textile artworks (using reclaimed and donated materials!) that will
be part of improving the acoustics and creating a distinctive warm
and welcoming environment. The Tea Rooms will be offering a free
hot soup lunch at every free session and welcome anyone in the
community to join us at each session, and be as involved as you
want (little to lots). There will be weekly sessions on Mondays at
the Tea Rooms, and a schedule of sessions at the
Bookery on Crediton High Street.

Over the last 6 years, The Turning Tides Project have been
developing and preserving the listed building on The Crediton Train
Station Platform - The Crediton Station Tearooms.
They have done lots of refurbishments and work to
make the Tea Rooms physically accessible for customers and
employees. The remaining barrier to equal access is about sound.
The building has high ceilings, hard floors, big windows, hand
driers, kitchen equipment and a coffee machine and, obviously,
passing trains. Currently it can be difficult to hold a
conversation in the Tea Rooms space, and further, it can be a
challenging environment for people who are sound sensitive as well
as those that are less sound sensitive. By working with an acoustic
engineer, running community workshops, producing and installing
wall hangings/panels, mobiles and bespoke light shades and
replacing chairs with padded ones we will create an acoustically
better space that is perfect for everyone in the community to
enjoy.
Turning Tides are excited to announce that a grant
organised by the Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership from the
Community Rail Development Fund, a joint initiative of the
Department for Transport and the Community Rail Development Fund, a joint
