We all know that disposable plastic bottles are an environmental
nightmare as so many billions of them are created each year to
pollute the environment for hundreds of years to come. However
recent reports indicate the extreme inadvisability for women to
drink water that has been left in plastic bottles in cars during
warm weather. The worst type of bottles are the clear plastic
disposable ones you buy at supermarkets and garages but all plastic
bottles are at risk of leaching plastic additives into the water as
it warms up. These chemicals have been found to be associated with
an increased risk of breast cancer.
For carrying drinking water the safest type of bottle is a
stainless steel one without a plastic liner. Such bottles can be
purchased over the internet, in camping shops or from the
Green House in Crediton and although a little more expensive than
plastic ones will last a lifetime and are safe. What price do we
put on our health?
