Sir Bradley Wiggins and cycling athletes whooshing down our High
Street, cheered by crowds of children, young people and adults has
boosted the morale of campaigners in the town and in Devon. Here
are thanks from Zsolt Schuller, Strategic Sustainable Travel
Officer for Devon County Council, who recently came to launch our
cycling leaflet.
"Thank you for all your efforts to promote the Tour of Britain
as it whizzed through Crediton. It was great to see the way the
town took to making the most of the race and you set an example of
what could be done. The impact of your efforts were clear from the
television footage with fantastic crowds throughout the town. In
addition my colleague, who was in one of the advance vehicles
during the race, commented on how busy it was in Crediton.
Congratulations and thank you, all of you!"
A few days before the event a large group cycled from the Town
Square, to join cyclists from Exeter, for coffee on the deck at
Quickes Farm Kitchen, while the Bike Fest, just after the cyclists
had gone through, was enthusiastically supported by young scooter
riders. One mother said, "My two have been waiting all week for
this." Speed rollers and the fiendishly difficult reverse BMX,
loaned and staffed by the Bike Shed, and the slowest cycle
race provided good humoured competition.
