A report by
the All Party
Parliamentary Cycling Group's "Get Britain Cycling" inquiry,
published on 24 April, calls for 10 per cent of journeys in Britain
to be made by cycle by 2025 - the current figure is less than 2 per
cent - and for central government spending of at least £10 per head
of population per year to boost cycle use, increasing this figure
as cycle use rises.
These recommendations echo calls made by the cycling charity CTC
in its written and oral evidence to the inquiry earlier this
year.
CTC, with The Times, Sustrans, the AA and British Cycling, is
urging members to sign up to a joint petition on the
Number 10 website, calling for the Government to implement the
recommendations.
Members of the Parliamentary Cycling Group include Devon MPs Ben
Bradshaw and Sarah Wollaston.
