A cycle path from Crediton to Exeter may feel like a long way
off, but things are happening, and if all cyclists of goodwill put
their feet to the pedals, we might still get there.
The next happening is a meeting of Devon County Council's Mid
Devon HATOC Committee in Tiverton. Not usually of gripping
interest, I expect, but a member of the Committee, Cllr Nick Way,
has asked for the Exeter to Crediton and Tiverton cycle path to be
put on the agenda.
Showing a bit of shaven leg - well, maybe lycra and a few cycle
helmets will do - in the public gallery will do wonders for
Councillors who might otherwise be tempted to disparage leg-powered
road users, and embolden those seeking the cycle vote to speak
up.
Numbers matter. If you can by any chance be there, or know
any person/s willing to dress the public gallery suitably, that
will be great.
And just so you know what they are prepared to do for other
parts of the county, have a look at this DCC press release
about an award for tourism that its cycle trails have won.
The meeting is on Monday 22 October at 11.00 a.m.
Until the agenda is published - usually about a week beforehand
- the presence of a cycling item on the agenda cannot be
guaranteed.
You can check for the agenda and venue (last meeting was in the
Town Hall) at Mid Devon
Highways and Traffic Orders - Minutes and Agendas. Members of
the public don't get a say in meetings, much, but this
leaflet tries to explain how you can make a presentation
of up to three minutes at meetings like this. See page two
and good luck . . .
I will update the website when I know more. Do drop me an email
if you'd like to be kept informed directly.
If you can, be there!
