Over 300 CCA supporters and friends gathered in Town Square
Crediton for the biggest CCA event yet held. It was part of the 350.org
international Climate Change awareness event held simultaneously at
over 5,000 locations in over 178 countries worldwide.
We had tremendous fun with live music by the Town Band, the
World Music Choir and a rock band from CRAMP. We chalked more than
170 footprints around the Square, ate 350 fairy cakes baked by
members of Beech Hill Community and WEN, gave away 100 Crediton
Bags to celebrate one year since the beginning of the Crediton
Plastic Bag Free campaign, blew up eco friendly balloons for the
children, and enjoyed a selection of stands and a wonderful food
stall that kept us all fed and watered.
At 11am we took great pictures from the 2nd floor of The 3
Little Pigs of over 160 CCA supporters forming a giant human number
350 with an impressive banner designed and made for us by Cleo
Heard.
As part of the morning Crediton's Deputy Mayor accepted pledges
from over 30 organisations in and around Crediton to support the UK
Government in their attempt to get a strong and binding agreement
on climate change at the Dec climate change talks in Copenhagen. We
also collected signatures of support from hundreds of individuals.
Laura and Gerald Conyngham, two staunch CCA supporters, will now
deliver all this Crediton material to UK Govt officials at the
talks. They plan to bicycle 350kms of the way there and join the
mass demonstrations taking place by people from all over the world.
We will continue collecting more pledges and signatures until they
leave for Copenhagen in December.
TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More
Many thanks are due to all the people who made our Crediton
event possible. They are too numerous to mention them all here
individually. It was a true team effort and showed what can be
achieved when lots of people pull together and each one takes
responsibility for a small part of the whole.
CCA is still less than 3 years old, and I am sure that the
Core Group would join me in thanking everyone who was involved in
the day and also in being justifiably proud of what we have
achieved as an organisation in that time
