Wannabe tree planters – can you join us next week or in half term?

6 February 2022

We've got two great projects coming up.

1. Planting at Elston Farm, Copplestone

Andy Gray of Elston Farm (who some of you heard speaking at our Post-Covid re-launch in October) is a regenerative farmer, hugely enthusiastic about trees. In 2021 he worked with volunteers to plant 6,000 trees on his land, as part of a Silvo-Pasture experiment. You can see some of the young trees from the A377 as you pass Spencecombe and read about it here.

Andy has more trees ready for planting now. Would you like to take part? We are expecting to have working parties on his farm on Monday 14th February and Thursday 17th February, meeting at 9:45 and planting from 10:00 till 12:30. Please contact us by Email if you'd like to join in.

At the same time we'll be working on making a small tree nursery on a patch of Andy's land. So far we have been given approximately 300 young oak seedlings to look after.

2. Wednesday 23rd February: Planting Day at Lord's Meadow- a great half-term activity?

We're going to be linking up with Steve Scriven of Mid Devon District Council (MDDC) on Wednesday 23rd to plant trees in Lord's Meadow. Looks to us like a great family activity, so please mention it to young families you know. It'd be ideal to have a group of our experienced volunteers to work alongside young people who are new to it.

It should be a manageable and enjoyable project. Mid Devon have obtained 50 or so young trees (whips) plus stakes and guards, and have linked up with us at Sustainable Crediton to find volunteers to take part. We'll meet in the Lord's Meadow Leisure Centre Car Park at 10.00 in the morning, bringing our own spades, hammers, gloves and refreshments.

Ideally contact us by Email in advance, just in case there are any last minute messages or adjustments to arrangements. We'll also post any updates on the Sus Cred Facebook group. Watch the newsletter and facebook - we hope there will be further projects before the planting season is over.
