At present Crediton
Tree Group (CTG) are investigating the possibility of planting 2 or
3 trees on a grass verge at Cockles Rise, but MDDC Housing Dept.
which own the land, say that there is no money for maintenance and
they won't agree to let us do this and they won't do it
themselves. But we are seeking advice from John Downes who is
on the Town Council (TC) and MDDC planning
committee. The problem for us is that there are so few
sites in Crediton town where it is possible to plant trees in
public places.
However, the TC is
in the process of applying for funding, including from the Big Tree
Plant for Peoples Park - planting and maintenance of trees and
renovating the Scout Memorial. Sandy Chalton is representing
CTG on Peoples Park working party. The intention is that work
should be completed this year.
We are pleased to
say that four or five new trees have been planted in Newcombes
Meadow.
We are in the
process of drafting a second letter to Caroline Spelman about the
forestry issue. We want to know why the govt. want to sell
off 15% of our forests at regular intervals. This has been
govt. policy for some time, not just in the time of the
present govt.
