We are intending to have leafleted Crediton and invited anyone
with any garden space to plant in their garden
(apple, plum, nut, cherry, pear) and are hoping enough people will
express interest that we can bulk buy at low cost. The leaflet will
give 10 reasons to plant a tree, the planting week, and varieties
of trees available. Hopefully before tree planting week we will do
some kind of demo/tasting session to drum up interest and wet the
taste buds.
Public space planting is inevitably progressing slowly through
the bureaucracy that this involves. People are asking the local
authority about any unclaimed land, park planting street planting
etc.
An area of Barnfield Hill allotments has been agreed for
planting about 15 trees.
A local apple grower nr Newton St Cyres with an old Orchard has
agreed to try and get the 'Orchards Live' apple press for a day in
the autumn and we can learn how to use it and make juice, share
lunch and explore L.E.E.P.(Langford Environmental Education
Project). Then at the same (organic) Orchard we are invited to go
along for a pruning day early next year, an expert will give us
some instruction and then we'll be let loose on the trees.
There have been loads of positive suggestions and it is just a
matter of people doing a bit whenever they can towards whatever
they are most interested in.
Come along if you can.
