Two pieces of good news this month.
Government ends obstruction of new on-shore wind farm
(and solar) developments.
Whilst developments will still be subject to rigorous planning
procedures, both on-shore wind and solar schemes will be able to
bid in the next round of clean energy auctions in 2021, which set a
floor price for power generated. The floor price of on-shore wind
generated electricity is expected to be around or below current
market prices, making it subsidy free.
Appeal Court determines that Heathrow's plans for a
third runway are illegal.
The court held that expansion plans contravene the UK's
commitments under the 2015 Paris Agreement. No doubt there will be
an appeal, though it seems that so far at least the Government is
adopting a fairly neutral stance. Watch for developments.
