At the open day at the Crediton Community Allotment in 2022
children from Hayward's School planted two dwarf apple trees, a
Sturmer Pippin and a Charles Ross. Since then each year the apples
from these trees have gone to the class that planted them. When we
gave up the allotment early this summer we wanted to find a way for
the children's relationship with their trees to continue. So with
the permission of the new allotment holders we harvested the apples
this year and then this month we have dug up and moved them to the
Four Lanes Allotment run by the Turning Tides Project. This will
allow us to have access to the trees in the future. It's a bit of a
gamble to move such old trees but we are hopeful it will be a
success. We will be telling the children the story of the trees
that moved. Thanks to Turning Tides for their support.
Thanks to Terry Hadley and Christina Dymond, pictured here, for
their efforts in moving the trees.
