Graham Harvey, agricultural story editor of The Archers, brings
to the stage the true tale of an unlikely Cotswold hero and an
enduring romance. Set in the Oxfordshire countryside at the
end of World War Two, this is no nostalgic, bucolic ramble. It is
the true story of Elizabeth, a young Somerset land girl who set off
in search of a best-selling author in the darkest days of
war. Moving between the 1940s and the current day, the play
raises some urgent issues about the state of farming in Britain
today. Above all, it reflects that the love of the
countryside, the need to protect it and issues of national
identity, are timeless.
Graham Harvey will lead a post show discussion about his play
and about how he has built environmental and political issues into
the Archers.
