The Sustainable Crediton Community Market is back on Saturday
11th May from 10am- 1pm on the Town Square. Now in its
3rd year, the popular market is a place for the smaller
producer whether it's enthusiastic gardeners bringing fresh
vegetables and plants, home cooked jams, pickles and chutneys or
cakes or small holders with cheese or eggs, fruit juice or garlic.
This is delicious, local, food from Crediton or nearby so you can
be sure it is fresh and that it benefits the local community by
encouraging local producers and brings people into town who may
also use the local shops and services while they are here.
Looking for a gift or a treat for yourself? The community market
has a wide range of locally made crafts. Jewellery, home
furnishings, knitwear, children's gifts, pictures, greetings cards,
soaps and garden ornaments are just a few of the excellent crafts
brought last year.
In addition local groups, organisations and musicians can come
to advertise themselves or to raise money. The market has
previously hosted musicians, a cookery demonstration, belly
dancing, Alternative Health therapies, the Badminton Club and the
Devon Travel Roadshow.
This year will be even better. In May the Really Wild
Forest School will be providing activities for children. The market
is on during the Crediton Festival so at the June Market there will
be a Recycling event with recycling displays with a chance to take
part in making a sculpture from waste products on the theme of
summer flowers. There will also be a taste of the music
available at the Lapstock Music Festival at Lapford in June.
In July the market shares the Square with a festival Arts event
with artworks for sale. Other events are being planned for each
market through the summer.
If you have grown vegetables or made food or crafts and would
like to have a stall at the market, the cost is by donation in
order to cover the costs of putting on the event and so can
reflect what you can afford. You will need to bring your own table
and weatherproofing as that cannot be provided at present. So as
long as you live within the local newspaper distribution area
around Crediton you would be very welcome.
This Market will feature a general 'bring and buy' type produce
stall to raise funds for Food Group expenses. Do you have some home
made jam or chutney, a cake, some rhubarb, a plant or two or even a
few spears of asparagus? Bring them along and, if there's something
you want in exchange, make a donation.
All markets are open to local gardeners and smallholders to sell
or swap their home grown surplus produce, preserves, cakes, etc.
Home produced crafts and local organisations are also welcome. You
can come with just few eggs or a basket of fruit - everybody is
welcome. For full details go to the Community
Market page.
