The orchard at Broadclyst Community Farm is now old enough for a
spot of formative pruning, so they have organised a workshop for
Saturday 16th February. This consists of a morning presentation on
the theory of pruning at Burrow Farm.
After enjoying a lunch made from their produce, you'll travel to
the community orchard for the afternoon tutored practical. This
will involve looking at a range of trees with differing growth
habits and issues. Having honed your skills in a supervised
environment, tried for yourself and asked questions, you can be
confident to tackle your own young trees. You can also save pounds
by learning to discern quality tools and the secrets of keeping
them sharp and safe for years and years.
Please note if the weather spoils things the practical will be
deferred to the following week.
Crispin Adams (Broadclyst Community Farm orchard group leader)
will be leading the training, at a charge of £12/head including
lunch.
