We are delighted to be letting you know about the following two
food waste prevention apps that can be used to increase
sustainability, but also to assist those who could benefit from
free food:
OLIO
The OLIO app is community run, and allows users to upload photos
of food surplus/food they are unable to use for themselves to the
app. It is free to use and there is also a 'Borrow' function for
those who wish to lend non-food items to the local community.
Businesses have the opportunity to recruit volunteers to upload
end-of-day surplus to the app. Collection is liaised on via the
chat function of the platform, where a time and date is arranged
for the receiver to collect specified items. Perhaps try
downloading it to prevent any food you will not use from going to
waste and provide a space for those who need it to collect and use
your items. You will be able to see who has food that you may want
in your local area!
Too Good To Go
Too Good To Go is a business-led app where end-of-day food is
promoted for a collection-window at approximately 1/3 of the
original price! Participating companies include Starbucks, Costa
and Café Nero and we will be looking at the interest in having
local business in Crediton participate too! You simply download the
app for free, see if there are any outlets with surplus in your
area, and arrange your time-specific collection to save the food
from going to waste. It's a great way for the community to get
involved with sustainability but also for businesses to be more
environmentally friendly.
