We have been contacted by Westbank Community Health and Care. As
part of their Healthy Neighbourhoods Project, Westbank enables a
community allotment at the Barnfield Allotment site in
Crediton.
Westbank say: 'The aim of the project is to
improve the social, mental and physical well-being of people in the
community who may lack confidence, feel isolated or be going
through a tough time and will benefit from being part of a social
group all taking part in working outdoors on an allotment together.
Volunteers help with all aspects of growing food on site: sowing
seeds, bringing on plants, weeding, watering, harvesting etc. as
well as supporting others within the community to take part. We are
developing the project this year and will be erecting a workshop
shed and paved area very soon followed by a wild meadow area and
group shelter where we can run group sessions covering growing
food, sustainability and other community based workshops. We will
be working hand in hand with other community organisations
including the food bank.'
Volunteers are at the allotment 10am-12midday every Wednesday so
people are welcome to visit during that time, or otherwise contact
Katheryn Hope, Westbank Activity and Volunteer Coordinator, via the
link to the right of this page, or by phone, 01395 446896. The
allotment can be found going up the hill at Barnfield, the gate at
the top on the left and the first allotment on your right.
