On Monday the 14th March, Sustainable Crediton
launched the Community Larder. This wonderful project,
organised by dedicated volunteers in partnership with Crediton
Library, ensures that food waste will soon be a thing of the past
in Crediton. Working with retailers Four Seasons, Stevie B's, The
Plant Shed (Copplestone), The Greenhouse, Olivers, Co-op,
Tesco and Tesco Express, and also people with surplus food
from gardens and allotments, the Community Food Larder, based at
the Library, sees that food waste goes back into the community and
not to landfill.
Since the launch, the Community Larder has built a
volunteer team of almost 30, and growing. It has brought people
together in a conversation about the importance of food security,
community and sharing.
Sustainable Crediton has also taken on the Community Allotment
in Barnfield, where the theme of food security will continue,
building a connection within our community, based around growing
and sharing produce. There are plans afoot to hold cookery classes,
utilising surplus food, and we hope to bring other outlets on
board, with a second premises opening soon at the new food outlet
on St. Lawrence Green.
Feedback from people accessing the Community Larder has
been extremely positive in all aspects.
