Our Community Larder is ready to go. Our launch date is Monday
14th March, at 12 noon, at Crediton Library. We need your
support!
The groundwork is just about done… Our Community Larder Planning
Group have worked closely in partnership with Sue Lee, supervisor
of Crediton Library, to sort out legal frameworks and hygiene
requirements, liaison with suppliers, containers and display
arrangements, risk assessments, cleaning rotas, and - most
importantly! - a good band of volunteers.
The Community Larder will be offering supplies of vegetables,
fruit and baked goods, shop surplus which would otherwise go to
waste. Produce will be free to all comers. The supplies will be
collected once or twice a week (mostly Mondays and Thursdays) from
a number of helpful retailers in the town, including Tesco,
Four Seasons, Stevie B's Bakery and The Greenhouse: thank you so
much to you all, withoutyou this project would not be happening.
Produce be distributed from the library, Belle Parade, and will
remain available during library opening hours, whilst in good
condition, until it runs out.
We are in the process of setting up a second distribution point
further up the town, and hope to be ready to start there soon.
This is important! Globally, food waste accounts for 8-10% of
all greenhouse gas emissions. Please support this
initiative.
We need:
- Plenty of Sus Cred supporters and well-wishers to attend our
launch on 14th March at the Library
- Plenty of 'customers' to develop the habit of using the
community larder (there will be good produce going begging)
- Just a few more volunteers to help with practical tasks -
collections and deliveries, produce checking, clearing and
cleaning
- A couple of volunteers to step forward to assist with
organising rotas and liaising with suppliers. If you can help as a
volunteer please email info@sustainablecrediton.org.uk or Alison
Orchard, via the link on this page.
