The outlook for our bees and other pollinators is very poor.
They remain under pressure from many sources, including pesticides,
habitat loss, predatory asian hornets, intensive farming and overly
fussy standards of gardening and of grounds maintenance by local
councils. Without bees and other pollinators our food chain will be
threatened, as they are vital to food production.
The B-Line project aims to create a
nationwide network of habitat corridors for pollinators. Devon is
currently under represented on the B-Line map. Sustainable
Crediton wants to put Crediton on the map.
We have made a good start with our project and have the
resources in place to expand our activities.
Possible projects include: habitat
restoration/ creation of new habitat, including planting, bee
banks, bee hotels, wildflower meadows.
Where could we do
it? There are several
possibilities including: with agreement, on private or commercially
owned land; council owned land; new housing developments; school
sites; roadside verges,.
What we lack though are sufficient people to make all of this
happen. Please get in touch with Dee Ross via the link on this
page, if you would like to help. You can commit as much or as
little time as you can afford. It all helps, and will go towards
making Crediton a prettier as well as a more sustainable place to
live.
