The weekend is an opportunity to focus on the future of energy
in Exeter - offering ways of lowering our energy costs and
promoting low-carbon alternatives. It is all about changing the way
we produce, use and think about energy.
It will include an Energy Fair and Green Open Homes event across
Exeter and beyond including Crediton where households will open
their doors to the public. All events are free. We're also
launching a community share offer for our first solar project
PV1.
On Saturday Montgomery School, the first "truly" zero carbon
school in Europe, will host the Energy Fair, with
energy experts on hand to give advice and run workshops and
suppliers exhibiting their products. Ben Bradshaw will be opening
the event and the launch of the community share offer at 12.00
followed by a presentation of ECOE's project Solar PV 1.
On the Sunday there will be a tour of the impressive eco-build
facilities at Bicton EaRTH near Otterton with another opportunity
to see ECOE's presentation of their project Solar PV 1.
The Green Open Homes event will run over the
weekend. People who have made their homes green - anything from
producing their own energy to finding simple ways to use less of it
- are inviting others to come and see first-hand how to make energy
improvements and reduce their energy bills. We've already signed up
homes to take part and are looking to add more homeowners including
private and social landlords so many different types of homes can
be visited - cottages, Victorian town houses, prewar, 1970's,
passivhaus and other modern green homes.
With this range of ideas on show, from big inspirational
buildings to practical domestic solutions, ECOE want to make a big
impact, putting community energy at the heart of Exeter's
future.
