Energy Group News

31 July 2014

The Energy Group has been working on three areas over the past few weeks.

Crediton Community Energy Company

During April and early May, the Energy Group conducted a competitive bid to find a consultant to help us put together a feasibility study about community energy in Crediton. The bid was between three companies and we are pleased to announce that the Devon Association for Renewable Energy (DARE) was the successful bidder. DARE then helped the Energy Group put together a grant application to the Rural Communities Energy Fund (RCEF) for the money to perform the feasilibility study. The application went in on the 16th May. We have heard from RCEF and have completed further paperwork in support of our grant application. We hope to be able to announce whether we have received a grant shortly.

Ecotricity Affinity Scheme

We have negotiated a scheme with Ecotricity whereby Sustainable Crediton will receive some cash towards a community fund if any of our supporters switch electricity or gas or both to Ecotricity. More details are in the newsletter.

Cosy Devon

One of the Big Six energy providers E.ON have been awarded a franchise by Devon local authorities to provide subsidised energy efficiency measures to Devon home owners and renters. These subsidised energy efficiency measures such as loft insulation, new gas boilers and cavity wall insulation will be funded through the Government's Energy Company Obligation (ECO). E.ON have contacted Sustainable Crediton with a view of working with us to identify suitable homes. We have not yet agreed to work with them, but watch this space. Details of Cosy Devon can be found on their website.
