Was a really good evening, about 30 folk attended including the
speakers, all very interested, had a job getting everyone out of
the hall by 10pm! The panel discussion worked very well and
Kirsty Tooke from DARE complimented the speakers' expertise
nicely.
We hope to start a thermal imaging survey service for
Sustainable Crediton supporters this winter.
Our speakers are Brian Harper and Mukti Mitchell who will be
offering practical tips to make our homes more energy efficient and
warm in the winter.
Brian Harper runs Energy Tracers. Energy Tracers is a company
that does thermal imaging surveys inside people's homes to identify
draughts and areas of heat loss through poor insulation. They are
working with other Transition organisations like us. Brian will
cover how to assess homes for heat loss and figures on typical heat
loss through different parts of the home.
Mukti Mitchell sailed around Britain in a 6 month voyage in the
revolutionary zero-emission Explorer Microyacht, to promote the
benefits of low carbon living. The tour visited forty ports
including Swansea, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, London
and Southampton, liaising with regional and national media to reach
an audience of 12 million. His message is that low carbon
lifestyles - a life that creates less carbon dioxide - is easy,
fun, saves money and improves your quality of life. Mukti has
written a book "The Guide to Low Carbon Lifestyles" which is
downloadable free of charge. Mukti will be talking about his trip
around Britain and how this led to meeting his current business
partner and starting CosyHome Company. He will then
move on to how to treat heat loss, esp. Loft Insulation,
Draught Proofing and Secondary Glazing, but also a little on wall
and floor insulation.
We are also planning to have DARE, the Devon Association of
Renewable Energy present to offer general advice on energy
efficiency.
