Four members of the Firewood from Hedgerows Group are being trained and assessed in chainsaw use and maintenance this month. Funding for the training comes mainly from an Awards for All (A4A) grant, but each trainee is also making a contribution towards the cost. Once the chainsaw "tickets" are obtained the group will be able to get the insurance needed to operate chainsaws on a third party's land. We are hoping to expand our operations this year to include coppice as well as hedgerow management. Part of the A4A grant will be used for hedge laying training in the autumn.
