The Wildlife Trusts and the RHS are launching a campaign to show that slugs and snails do a lot of good work in our gardens and help balance the ecosystem.  They are a food source and help break down waste and return nutrients to the soil.  You can find more information and a Wild About Gardens guidance booklet here.  There are slug and snail safari spotter sheets too.
