The Broadband for Rural Crediton group have been continuing
their search for so-called dark fibre, which would be an essential
ingredient for any community-led fibre-to-the-home broadband
scheme. Dark fibre is optical fibre laid around the country by the
telecomms companies as an investment in the future, but not yet
used by anyone. We have identified at least two companies
potentially with dark fibre running under the A3072 from Crediton
to Tiverton (and onwards), but as yet have not been able to get
them to talk to us. This could be a 'stopper' for a community
scheme.
In early May B4RC will meet with the head of "Connecting Devon
& Somerset" to explore possible collaboration between CDS and
B4RC. The results of this discussion will be reported on the B4RC
website.
B4RC have produced a Guide to Internet Connection which explains to
the layperson everything one needs to know about the current
situation in rural Mid Devon
