To celebrate its first full year in Crediton as an initiative of
Sustainable Crediton and publicise its new venue and time - the
Council Offices in Market Street from 1.30 to 3.00 p.m. every
Friday from 4 October - the volunteers at the Plough and Share
Credit Union local service point have borrowed a shark suit. Peter
Hamilton has written and is directing a piece of street theatre
which is as instructive as it is entertaining.
Five local actors and the shark will be at the Community Market
and the supermarkets on 12 October - their first appearance at the
Community Market is expected to be at about 10.00 a.m.
On Sunday 13 October the shark will be seen at venues seldom
visited by illegal money lenders, and if you'd like to see it in
unlikely company for a shark - with the Bishop of Crediton - do go
to the Parish Church at about 11.45 a.m.
As well as publicising the move of the service point to the
Council Offices, the volunteers are promoting the work of the
England Illegal Money Lending team, a specialist enforcement team
who work in partnership with Trading Standards to crack down on
illegal money lending. The shark suit, Glenda the Lender, belongs
to them.
Plough and Share Credit Union's Crediton volunteers are also
expanding their activities by opening a service point at the
Children's Centre.
If you haven't joined the Credit Union yet for ethical saving
and loans, do come to the Council Offices between 1.30 and 3.00
p.m. on Fridays from 4 October, or visit the Plough and Share website.
