The latest branch of the Plough and Share Credit Union opened on
Saturday 15th September in Crediton.
Carol Carpenter, a seasoned Plough and Share Volunteer said:
"Crediton volunteers! What an exciting morning. We almost joined
two new members to P and S before we even unlocked the front
door.
"We had eight transactions, six of which were new members, and of
those, two were joint member applications. That was first for me,
because joint membership came in only this summer, and I hadn't
taken one before.
"When doors are opened for the first time, it's unusual to see
that much activity. I think the pre-opening work that you all did
as volunteers showed great results.
"So thanks to Nick and Linda who led today, and I look forward to
meeting those on rota for the next few weeks.
"Keep up the good work."
The opening featured on Radio Devon early on
Saturday morning.
John Skrine, a Sustainable Crediton volunteer explained: "And
that press release also earned me the dubious privilege of having
to get up and be interviewed on Radio Devon at 0710 or just after
on Saturday morning.
"But of more interest is the fact that more than one of the
new people who came through the door had been following our
progress through the website. After the Courier, I would definitely
rate it as the best publicity tool - apart from the posters we have
stuck up around the place, which are harder to evaluate."
