Community Allotment Update

29 September 2023

Firstly, a big thanks to Kara Johnstone for the fabulous sign she has painted to go on the shed.

September continued to bring great harvests up at the allotment. We had loads of tomatoes, lettuce, beans and courgettes. We even got a couple of more cucumbers and then the strawberries produced again. There haven't been a lot but ooh they were so good.

Most produce is shared amongst the volunteers as giving people a chance to grow their own vegetables is part of the reason for a Community Allotment . However,  we have also been able to take some produce to the Community Larder which feels like a great thing to do.

We still have lots of strawberry runners to give away, if anyone would like them. With autumn and dare I say winter coming on we will be turning our minds to setting up some new beds and generally tidying and reorganizing. There will be some digging and shifting of bags of manure so if you're not into the finer points of gardening but would like some exercise do get in touch.

We will continue to have a presence up at the Allotment on Saturdays from 1-4pm but not on days when the weather is rough.  If anyone wants to be introduced to the allotment on a different day just contact us and we will sort it out. Once you have had an induction you can go up anytime. Hope to see you up there.

The Community Allotment is found through the top gate of the Barnfield Allotments.
