Review of General Election Hustings Meeting

 to

Queen Elizabeths Community College (Upper School). Main Hall GoogleMap

It was an interesting evening with a full main QE Hall and some people having to stand. 5 of the candidates did very well. The UKIP candidate appeared disinterested and was plainly embarrassed by his party's sceptical climate change policies. Questions from the audience on NHS, climate change, EU, foreign aid. Candidate who got the most applause was the independent Arthur Price who was speaking from the heart for less austerity, more council houses to be built and general commonsense. Lib Dem chap was an impressive youngster who may well do well in some other constituency. Lynne Richards, Labour, was verbally attacked by Tory councillor Judi Binks for not attending one Crediton Hospital meeting. Lynne responded very well and drew support from Mel Stride. Green Party candidate Andy Williamson spoke well and knew all the policies. I'd say these were a better bunch of candidates than 2010, but there would have to be a mighty upset for Mel Stride not to win.

This is a great opportunity to ask questions of our candidates before the election and to raise issues about climate change and sustainability.  All 5 candidates will be there (Conservative, Green, Labour, Lib Dem and UKIP).  If you would like to ask a question, send it to Mark Baptiste at  M.BAPTIST@qe.devon.sch.uk  by the 27th April.

The meeting is being organised jointly by QE and Sustainable Crediton.
