Andi was one of the founding members of Sustainable
Crediton, or Crediton Climate Action [CCA], as it was known then.
It is very distressing to learn that such an active, committed and
lively person has succumbed to a brain tumour after months of
bravely struggling against it.
I first met Andi when we were in a group campaigning to stop the
big Tesco store coming to Crediton. She was full of ideas and
enthusiasm and [perhaps strangely to say] we spent some happy
hours giving out leaflets, talking to people and getting
signatures on a petition in Crediton High Street. Not a successful
campaign, but trying to do something made us feel better.
The first organising meetings for CCA were held in Andi's house
and she really kept it all together during a very busy first year
with public meetings and events and loads of organising to do. She
was instrumental in gaining CCA much support and publicity in its
initial stages.
We missed Andi a great deal when she moved to Exeter, though I'm
sure activists there were pleased!
It is so sad that such a good campaigner and lovely, talented
person should die before her time. It just doesn't seem right, but
at least Andi made a big difference while she was with us.
