Notes from First Meeting
At the first meeting the overall theme that emerged was keep it
simple until we see what resources we have.
A number of issues and options were discussed as
follows:
1. How to organise the group.
Having had some difficulties in finding times when people could
manage a meeting it was thought we could have face to face meetings
from time to time but mostly discussion can be done by e-mail
initially.
2. Whether to have a single big day with of lots of mini
skill sessions and or provide the means for people to get together
and share skills.
There were lots of interesting ideas the group could do in the
future but at this it time until it becomes clear what number
of skills could be on offer and how much time people can commit to
the group, it was decided to initially to look at options that
put people in touch with each other about skills or put on simple
individual skill events or provide publications. An online presence
would be invaluable in this scenario.
Working with other groups was thought to be important. We don't
necessarily need to reinvent the wheel for everything.
We have several offers already. One example suggestion was to
piggy back some food/gardening/smallholding skill shares with the
Seed Swap.
3. Managing the skills
The easiest option to start could be an online skills list.
Later perhaps there could be an online website using something like
Moodle or Ning to provide wider information about what's on.
Action: Dave is going to check out other skill share groups
partly to see what other skills groups are using and
partly to check out possibilities of working together. He will also
talk to the Sustainable Crediton website designer to check out
possibilities for making a skills form available on the site.
Action: Dee to check out funding possibilities for the group as
may need some funds for printing or web hosting.
It was thought a leaflet and a skills form would be useful to
cater for people who do not use the internet and to make available
on display at events like the Sustainable Crediton stall at the
Community Market. The waste group are looking to do pop up shop and
if this comes about we could do a display and have skills forms and
leaflets available there. The next Community Market we could
have something ready for would be the July 12th market
as there is no market in June.
A draft of a skills form to collect people's offers and wants
was sent out so we can gage the interest or use as a starting point
for a list.
*Post meeting note: If we are to do a leaflet we will need ideas
about what would go on it.

Meeting Announcement
The first meeting of the Skill Sharing Group is taking place on
Saturday 3rd May at 10:30am at the General Sir Redvers Buller Pub.
At the Back to the Future Event in January the discussion
concluded:
-
Need a "bank" of skills- include wants and offers. Skills
include simple tasks that people don't always appreciate are skills
that others would be interested in e.g. sewing repairs, up to more
complicated skills like carpentry. Could include knowledge based
skills like how to complain successfully.
-
Would be good to link with other established groups e.g. DASH,
Yarner, Churches, Schools etc, for skills they already offer or who
might be interested in being involved in hosting a skill share.
-
Make use of web links to advertise skills in the area, events
etc
-
Produce publications on skills
-
Need coordinators.
A group of people agreed to form a group to discuss and
coordinate the ideas further.
