Queen Elizabeth's Academy and Sustainable Crediton have joined
forces to give local people a chance to quiz prospective members of
the European Parliament at a hustings event on 13 May at the QE
Upper School site in Western Road.
"The European Parliament is influential in all our lives, so
this is a really important opportunity to find out how people
who wish to be elected on 22 May want to use the power it gives
them," said Gerald Conyngham of Sustainable Crediton.
"We're encouraging people of all ages to come along and put
their questions on the huge range of policies influenced by
Europe", said Mark Baptist, of QE Academy.
"It's a great chance to make your voice heard on climate change,
finance, agriculture, trade policy, social and international
matters and more," he added.
The event will be chaired by Sir Neil Butterfield, who also
chaired the popular hustings meeting organised by Sustainable
Crediton at the time of the last European Elections.
Candidates who have confirmed their attendance are: Georgina
Butler (Conservative), Glyn Ford (Labour), Kay Barnard (Liberal
Democrat), Ricky Knight (Green) and Tony McIntyre (UKIP).
"Putting in a written question before the event starts will
really help us," said Gerald Conyngham. "So we are asking people
either to send them by email to m.baptist@queenelizabeths.devon.sch.uk
or to bring them along by 6.30 p.m. on the evening of the
event."

The hustings will be held at 7.00 p.m and finish by 9.0pm. on
Tuesday the 13 May at the QE Upper School site in Western
Road, Crediton.
